Clergy Ancient Tartan Kilt
This unique tartan is known as the “Clergy” TARTAN or “Clark” TARTAN and is very much part of Scotland's heritage.
Some of the notes on registration suggest that it's an older variant; there are some minor variations between its commonly seen form and a previous "version" of the text, known as 'Clark', with the change in the pivot of the double light lines from blue to black.
This tartan features light blue lines on a dark background, and was traditionally used by the Clergy or Clark family. While not a specific designer has been credited with the development of the design, its presence in Scottish textiles is a testament to the importance of this design in the country's traditional weaving tradition.
