Clan Ay (now called Shaw Clan) has it roots tracing back to the early Scottish mists of history and has ANCESTRAL connections to the great MacKintosh Clan. The Shaw's were very much involved in the dynamics of the Scottish Highlands as members of Chattan Confederation. The name of the clan is reckoned to have been based on the Gaelic: sithech, which refers to wolf. They took its place, by the 14th century, under the stewardship of Shaw MacDuff, as an emblem of the spirit and tenacity of the Highland clan, in the territories of Rothiemurchus.
