Russell Modern Heavyweight Tartan is a Scottish Clan Tartan from the clan of Russell.
The green base to the Russell Modern tartan is complemented by rich shades of blue and red running throughout the design - which are also traditional to the clan of Clan Mitchell and Clan Galbraith.
The names were originally old French rous-el (red coloured) and historically applied to a person with red hair or a red face. There are a number of different unrelated families of this surname throughout Scotland.
