Belonging to the Anglo-Norman family, Clan Ramsay can be traced back to the 12th century in the Lothians and were very much involved in Border warfare. George Ramsay of Dalhousie was made Lord Ramsay of Dalhousie in 1618, and later became Marquis in 1849, serving as Governor-General of India from 1847 to 1858.
