The MacKinnon Hunting Ancient Heavyweight Tartan is a warm brown based with rich shades of green and red, all of which reflect the ancient quality of the western Highland landscapes that this clan has long lived in. The MacKinnons have a most illustrious ancestry, with the surnames being descended from Fingon, the great-grandson of the legendary King of Scots Kenneth MacAlpin, who was killed in 837. Loyal to each other, the clan backed the Jacobite cause in both the 1715 and 1745 Risings, with the clan chief being captured and imprisoned in the Tower of London in the last Rising, a landmark event in the proud and turbulent history of Clan MacKinnon.
