The MacHardy name is of ancient origin, probably from the ancient Pictish personal name Gartnaigh which was used in the same areas as the MacHardie family was later particularly prevalent: Mar. This is an old Pictish link that gives the MacHardy family a history to be traced back to some of the earliest documented history of Scotland.
