Clan History

 Gilchrist, a descendant of the Celtic Earls of Lennox was the ancestor of this clan. In 1230, they owned Arrochar and their territory was on Loch Lomondside. Their 4th Chief was called Bartholomew, or Parlan in Gaelic; and the clan name MacFarlane signifies the son of Bartholomew. They were powerful and belligerent and made their mark in war.
