Clan MacFarlane are descended from the Celtic Earls of Lennox and, as early as 1230, they established their land on the shores of Loch Lomondside, taking over Arrochar. They were named the MacFarlane clan, which translates to "son of Bartholomew", the name of their 4th Chief, Parlan in Gaelic.
The MacFarlanes were proud, warlike and strong, and a formidable reputation was built on the battlefields that remains in the history of the Scottish Highlands.
