The MacDonald of Ardnamurchan Modern Heavyweight Tartan is a tartan with a strong, assertive red hue with overchecks of black and yellow. It is believed that the clan descends from "John the Bold" (Angus More of Islay's third son) who was sent to expel Norwegian settlers from Ardnamurchan, in 1270. His descendants were to maintain control of these rugged western lands for an amazing 340 years, and it was during this period that they had a significant influence throughout the Western Isles – a testament to their strength and determination, befitting of a clan whose founder earned his name through courage and determination.
