Home Ancient Tartan Kilt
The Home (Hume) family is descended from Cospatric I Anglo-Celtic Earl of Northumbria who died post 1073. The surname is derived from William of Home who had acquired the lands of Home in Berwickshire in the early 13th century. He carried a silver lion on green as his arms — in tribute to his Dunbar and Greenlaw roots.
One of Scotland's earliest heraldic quarterings is the clan's unique silver field and three green papingoes (parrots) which are descended from the Pepdies of Dunglass, builders of the famous Dunglass Collegiate Church, Berwickshire.
Two great branches of William's line sprang from this: the chiefs of Clan Home and the Homes of Wedderburn (which were one of Scotland's most enduring noble families).
