One of the most distinguished and historically significant branches of Clan Davidson (Scottish Gaelic: Clan Dhai), the Davidson of Tulloch is a proud and ancient Highland clan whose history goes back over centuries of Scottish clan life, conflict and cultural identity. The Davidsons were one of the main member clans of the most important and historically renowned clan alliance in Scottish Highland history – the Clan Chattan Confederation. They had established their position in the Confederation, and fought hard and long to retain it; the Davidsons had a long-standing rivalry with their neighbours for precedence within the Chattan alliance and this sometimes turned violent and became part of some of the most colourful episodes in the history of the clans of medieval Scotland.

The Davidson of Tulloch branch of the family was named after their original home in Tulloch, Ross-shire in the northern Scottish Highlands, a place of great natural beauty and historical interest. Tulloch Castle in Dingwall is one of the most evocative historic properties connected with the Davidson family's Highland heritage over the generations and is the tangible physical link.
