The Name Davidson Comes From

The name Davidson is thought to have been inspired by the Clan Dhai which was one of the Clans of the ancient Clan Chattan Confederation. Its founder is believed to be the son of Gilliecattan Mhor, Dhai Dhu, who existed in the time of David I of Scotland. The descendants of Dhai Dhu were called the sons of David - and so the surname Davidson. Gradually, the Davidsons became a great family in Highland and at one point developed throughout the rest of Scotland and played a significant role in the history and innovation of the nation.
