History of the Davidson Clan

The Clan Davidson comes from one of Scotland's most established and renowned Highland clan families and has a long lineage to the ancient landscape of the Scottish Highlands. This name, which translates literally as "Son of David" is one of the longest running and most common Scottish names of the clan; it was proudly borne by families throughout Scotland, Britain and the Scottish world throughout the ages.
Clan Davidson is officially registered as part of the Clan Chattan Confederation – which is one of the most important and historically-landmark clan alliances in the history of the Scottish Highlands. Chattan Confederation was a group of Highland clan families, united in kinship, protection and identity, who were one of the strongest in the medieval Scottish Highlands.
The Davidsons are most closely associated with the ancient lands of Badenoch and Strathspey in the central Scottish Highlands which is a dramatic and historically significant land that formed the character, identity and martial tradition of the Davidsons across the centuries of the Highland. The Clan's most famous event in Scottish military history was in 1396, when 30 champions of Clan Davidson and 30 champions of Clan MacPherson met on the North Inch of Perth before King Robert III of Scotland to settle a long-standing feud between the two Chattan member clans.
