The History of the clan Crawford

The Clan Crawford is one of the oldest and most famous of Scottish noble families, hailing from the ancient lands of Lanarkshire in the Scottish Lowlands, back to the 12th century. Geographical and cultural connections were strong and deep between the Scottish clan families and their lands for generations, and the Crawford family's name comes from the Barony of Crawford in Lanarkshire, whose name is of Old English origin and means "ford of the crows".
