Campbell of Cawdor Ancient Tartan Kilt
Campbell of Cawdor Ancient Tartan Kilt
Clan Campbell was a strong power in the West of Scotland especially in the Argyllshire. They were called Diarmid, and were given the title of Lordship of Lochow in the early 13th century. One such influential person was Colin Campbell of Lochow who was knighted circa 1280. The Campbells subsequently became great Earls of Argyll. In 1701, the 10th Earl was made a Duke by William of Orange, and the 9th Earl was executed in 1685 on account of his part in the Monmouth Rebellion. The Campbells had a great role in the affairs of the state, as they occupied prestigious posts of Hereditary Lord Justice General and Admiral of the Western Coasts and Isles of Scotland.
Pattern and Color Scheme
The Campbell of Cawdor Ancient Tartan has a lively design with bright green and teal squares to represent the beautiful scenery and waters of Scotland. The pattern is complemented by black stripes; this provides a depth and contrast to the pattern, and the lines of the grid are crossed by thin red and light blue lines making the design more complex and vivid. This tartan is made of 100 % acrylic wool and is therefore durable and comfortable and thus a good choice to those who want to wear a traditional tartan, but at the same time a stylish Scottish tartan.
