Angus Ancient Tartan Kilt
Designed by Clans Originaux in 1880, the Angus Tartan has a long and proud history. It is in the Clans Originaux of 1880, and was also exhibited in the Neilson, Shaw and MacGregor catalogue of 1888. It was added to W & A K Johnston's "Tartans of the Clans & Septs" in 1906. At first, this tartan was believed to be a clan or family tartan, but has since come to mean the tartan of the historic county of Angus on the east coast of Scotland, bordered by Kincardineshire and Aberdeenshire to the north, the Firth of Tay to the south, and Perthshire to the west. Its name ‘The Only One' may be a reference to the ninth century Angus King of Dalriada, highlighting the great historical significance. The Clan MacInnes are thought to be descendents of the Dalriada Scots and the Earldom of Angus has belonged to both the Stewarts and the Douglases.
